Grounding for Justice
Helping to build a more compassionate and just society
Peace Hill is a 25 year old community, fulfilling a mission to nurture and teach contemplative and restorative practices to build a more compassionate and just society. Peace Hill believes the work of deliberate and effective action for social change can not be done without practices that support peace within and among each of us. Peace Hill understands contemplation as work of the heart using modalities such as meditation, prayer, mindfulness, reflection, and silence to slow our pace and awaken us to the mystery and connectedness of all life. Building a Lasting Legacy
Peace Hill at Avila is a work of the heart to connect us to all living things. We tune our hearts to hear the wisdom of the ancients, to sensitize us to the immediacy of the present challenges and to inspire us to use our many gifts and resources toward a more just and peaceful planet for future generations.
The mission of Peace Hill is to nurture and teach contemplative and restorative practices to build a more compassionate and just society. We believe this work is vital to the good work of individuals and organizations to create a better and more sustainable world.
This work takes heart. It also takes commitment, partnership, and stewardship.
Committed to a strong foundation, Peace Hill at Avila has put in a place a thoughtful and impactful leadership team, established 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, and created by-laws to guide the mission.
As a cooperative partner with Self-Help and the Avila, Peace Hill invests financially in the operations of Avila which supports the training of organizers, many of whom are young, as well as black and brown.
As a steward of the earth, Peace Hill commits volunteer labor to help care for the grounds and buildings, especially the labyrinth, peace garden, and meditation room.
To build a more secure financial future, Peace Hill at Avila has established the Peace Hill at Avila Sustainability Fund with the Foundation for the Carolinas. With an initial investment of $900,000 donated by local contributors, Peace HIll is well on its way to reach a goal $1.5 million for the Fund that will then be matched by a generous offer by Self-Help of $.5 million, creating a $2 million Sustainability Fund. The Sustainability fund will provide a substantial portion of Peace Hill’s operating budget, help sustain the operational support for Self-Help, and allow us to keep our offerings affordable for individuals and organizations.
If you are interested and able to contribute to our Sustainability Fund, please contact me at terry.allebaugh@gmail.com
By reaching into the deep well of ancient wisdom, by drawing alongside and supporting the current work of community activists and organizers, and by looking forward to create a Sustainability Fund, we are building a lasting legacy.
Come and walk with us on this pilgrim journey of Peace Hill at Avila.
